Magi Whirl

13/04/2010

Just got back from the Magi Whirl convention in Washington D.C. Once again Spin is the big hit of the convention. People were amazed one they see this huge object spinning in both directions but what I am most pleased about was the connections we made at this convention. This time Mandy came down and we got to see some old friends Geoff Weber and Eric Jones and some new friends Danny Garcia and Mark Reed. Our booth was set up right next to theirs and it was nice to see somebody working hard and putting their heart and soul into what they do. Both Eric and Danny really make you feel like they actually care about what you are trying to do with your magic. It was a laid back convention but I was expecting that D.C. is a town with a lot going on with its own magic community so the idea of a convention doesn’t lay down as much hype in a town where there are two great magic shops and legends like Darwin Ortiz and Alain Nu live and perform. Every convention has its own feeling and with us being so busy this year it was nice to go to a convention that was pretty chill.

Winter Carnival

6/03/2010
The Convention tour continues this time we stopped in Pigeon Forge for the Winter Carnival Of Magic. Pigeon Forge was the strangest place I have ever seen. One attendee called it the marriage of Las Vegas and The Waffle House. Trinkets, Airbrush T-Shirts, and As Seen On TV stores for as long as the eye can see. The strange thing is with all the campyness of Pigeon Forge it has the beauty of the Smoky Mountains to balance out all the cheese.
The first thing I noticed about the magicians in Tennessee is that people from Tennessee are extremely kind. Another pleasant discovery was that the magicians all seemed to share in the same community. They all seemed to know each and shared in having a common respect for not only each other but also for the ring.
Overall it was a really great convention and I am definitely looking forward to going next year. Spin and Universal Impression was a big hit at the convention and we introduced a lot of new folks to the Paper Crane Magic community. Big ups to Zeke, Jon Dee and my man Pan for being awesome friends/tour guides.
